Mr. Alvin Benjamin Chavis was the son of the late Rev. Warren Alvin Chavis and Mrs. Mary Bell Jones.  He is survived by his wife:  Mrs. Naomi Dial Chavis; a daughter:  Mrs. Shannon C. Lowry of Garner, NC, a son-in-law:  Mr. Davey Corey Lowry of Garner, NC; a grandson:  Master Corey Benjamin Lowry of Garner, NC; sister:  Ms. Mary Liza Oxendine of Pembroke, NC and a host of relatives and friends.

Mrs. Chavis died in the Wesley Pines Retirement Home in Lumberton, NC.  She is survived by two daughters, Quessie C. Dial and Mary Louise Carter, both of Pembroke, NC; one foster daughter, Cloise Berry of Connelly Springs, NC, two sisters, Adlenor Oxendine of Fairmont, NC and Purnell Hogans of Lumberton, NC; one brother, Boyd Oxendine of Pembroke NC; four grandchildren, several step grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Chavis was the daughter of the late Mr. Ornie Bullard and Ms. Precious Locklear.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Sherman Chavis.  Mrs. Chavis is survived by five daughters; Mrs. Gale Locklear of Maxton, NC, Ms. Alfreda Chavis of Greensboro, NC, Mrs. Nita Chavis of Red Springs, NC, Mrs. Gracie Locklear and Mrs. Lorna Harris, both of Pembroke, NC.  Three son-in-laws, Mr. Ronald, (John) Locklear, Mr. Brent Locklear and Mr. Terry Harris, thirteen grandchildren.  Three sisters, Mrs. Iona Harris, Maxton, NC, Mrs. Francis Strickland, Pembroke, NC, and Mrs. Lizzie Jean Oliver, Charlotte, NC.  Seven brothers, Mr. Reese Bullard, Pembroke, NC, Mr. Evans Bullard, Maxton, NC, Mr. Junious Bullard, Maxton, NC., Mr. Homer Locklear, Pembroke, NC, Mr. Mark Locklear, Pembroke, NC, Mr. Earnest Locklear, Pembroke, NC and Mr. Nelson Chavis, Maxton, NC, and a host of relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by one son, Mr. Delton Ray Chavis.  He leaves to cherish his memories, his wife of sixty years, Mrs. Alice Chavis of the home; a daughter, Mrs. Mergie Strickland of Pembroke, NC; four sons: Joe Jr. of Wakulla, NC, Elmer Ray, Donnie Lee, and Roy Lee, all of Pembroke, NC; three sisters, Mrs. Minnie P. Chavis on March 20, 1966.  They had two girls and two boys.  She is survived by her husband, her sons: Donavita and Vilyn of the home; her daughters:  Shane and Shaven of the home: her mother, Mrs. Viler Jane Chavis of the home; her brother:  Mr. Jimmy Jacobs of Route 2, Red Springs; and her father:  Mr. Malcar Jacobs of Route 2, Red Springs.

She was the daughter of the late Ms. Lillian Cummings.  Mrs. Collins was raised and nurtured by her maternal grandparents Mr. Bellamy Cummings and Mrs. Ruthie Jane Cummings.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Robert Lee Collins and a sister, Mrs. Eartle Jane Strickland.  Mrs. Collins is survived by three sons, Mr. Selford Cummings of Rock Hill, SC, Mr. Kenneth Collins and Mr. Willie L. Collins both of Rowland, NC; two daughters, Ms. Linda R. Collins and Mrs. Paula Collins Sampson both of Rowland, NC,  three bothers, Rev. Cooledge Cummings and Mr. Archie L. He was the son of the late Tommy C. and Lillie Lowry Cummings of Pembroke, NC.  Mr. Cummings is survived by three sisters, Ms. Moncell C. Morrison of Fayetteville, NC, Ms. Cammie C. Tarkenton of Portsmouth, Va., and Ms. Wordie Mae C. Oxendine of Pembroke, NC.  Two brothers, Mr. Jerry Cummings and Mr. Gerald F. (Fred) Cummings, both of Pembroke, NC and several nieces and nephews and a host of relatives and friends.

Mr. and Mrs. Cummings were preceded in death by four infant children.  They are survived by two daughters, Ms. Iris Kay Cummings of Pembroke, NC and Mrs. Enid Dawn Cummings Begay of Antiock, California; one son, Mr. John Earl Cummings, Jr. of the home; two grandchildren and a host of relatives and friends.

 

Mr. Cummings was the son of the late Mr. William Bellamy Cummings and Mrs. Ruthy Jane Graham Cummings.  He was preceded in death by one brother Mr. Newton Cummings; two sisters, Mrs. Eula Oxendine and Mrs. Lillian Oxendine.  He is survived by four brothers, Mr. Bonford Cummings, Mr. Baker Cummings both of Pembroke, NC, Rev. Coolidge M. Cummings and Mr. Hartford Cummings both of Maxton, NC; one sister, Mrs. Cledy Sampson of Maxton, NC.  His wife, Mrs. Maitland Dimery Cummings was the daughter of late Mr. Javan Dimery and Mrs. Jessie B. Locklear Dimery.  She was preceded in death by one sister, Mrs. Joyce Dimery Locklear and one nephew, Mr. Michael Locklear.  She is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Anita Louise Weaver of Pa. and Mrs. Carol Oxendine of Michigan; four brothers, Mr. Carlton H. Dimery of El Paso, Texas, Mr. Odgen Dimery, Mr. Charles Dimery and Mr. Richard Dimery all of Pembroke, NC.

She is survived by her children: Newton Cummings of Pembroke, NC, Ms. Eula Cummings  Oxendine of Maxton, NC, Ms. Cletus Sampson of Maxton, NC, Mr. Baker Cummings of Pembroke, NC, Mr. Bonford Cummings of Maxton, NC, Mr. Hartford Cummings of Maxton, NC, Mr. John E. Cummings of Rowland, NC,  Mrs. Annie Collins of Rowland, NC, Rev. C.M. Cummings of Maxton, NC, and Mr. Selford Cummings of Charlotte, NC; another daughter, Ms. Lillian Cummings Oxendine preceded her in death.  She is also survived by one brother, Mr. Council Graham of Lumberton, NC.  Mrs. Cummings is also survived by 63 grandchildren, 155 great-grandchildren and 24 great-great-grandchildren, plus a host of relatives and friends.  Her mother was Mrs. Virginia Graham.

Va., Kelliner Durham of Baltimore, Maryland, Lona D. Williams and Kyra Deese, both of Ocala, Florida, and Polly Hunt of Pembroke, NC,  Five sons, Daniel Deese of Punta Gorda, Florida, Melvin Deese of Baltimore, Maryland, Bobby Deese of Rowland, NC, H. Mr. A.G. was the eldest son of Mrs. Flora Bowen Dial and the late Mr. John W. Dial.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Ruby Carter Dial, to whom were born one daughter, Ruth Dial Woods and son, Allen Griffen Dial.  His grandchildren are: constance Susan, Stephanie Rose, Noah Ollin, Sherri, and Aaron Reuben.  He is also survived by his mother, Mrs. Flora Bowen Dial, four sisters, Macy, Cammie, Fannie and Agnes, and two brothers, Vernie and Tommie.

She was the daughter of the late Charles Hadden and Marie Sampson Moore.  Mrs. Dial was preceded in death by her husband, Simmie Dial and is survived by her daughter, Byrtis Dial Brayboy, and her husband, Tim Brayboy of Cary, NC; her son Talford Ray Dial and his wife, Betty Thompson Dial of Pembroke, NC; her brother James Everette Moore, of Pembroke, NC, her sister Mary Moore Morehead, of Montpelier, Indiana; her granddaughter, Mia Brayboy Pate and her husband, Ricky Pate, of Raleigh, NC.

 

Dial, Mrs. Flora Agnes Bowen Dial

B. July 6, 1893; D. October 28, 1982

She was the daughter of the late John and Henrietta Godwin Bowen of the Hopewell Community.  Mrs. Dial married her husband, John Wesley Dial, in 1908.  The became the parents of four sons, A.G., Vernie Clinton, Johnnie and Tommie and five daughters, Sarah, Cammie, Macy, Fannie, and Agnes.  Mrs. Dial is survived by her children, Mrs. Cammie Lowry of Bethesda, Md., Vernie Clinton Dial of Maxton, NC, and Mrs. Fannie D. Locklear, Mrs. Macy D. Locklear, Mrs. Agnes D, Hunt and Tommie dial all of Pembroke, NC, fifteen grandchildren, twenty six great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Mr. Dial is survived by his wife:  Mrs. Katherine Brooks of the home.  Two sons:  Mr. James H. Dial, of Huntersville, NC and Mr. Dennis D. Dial of Japan. Two daughters:  Mrs. Gina Q. Locklear and Mrs. Colette R. Locklear both of Maxton, NC.  Three brothers:  Mr. Manley Dial of Maxton, NC, Mr. Danford Dial of Pembroke, NC and Mr. Leslie Dial of Sunberry, NC.  Three sisters:  Mrs. Jackie Locklear, Mrs. Naomi Chavis and Mrs. Ruth Locklear all of Maxton, NC.  He is also survived by seven grandchildren, one great-grandchild and a host of relatives and friends.

He was the son of the late John Dial and Polly Deese Dial.  Mr. Dial was married to Flora Agnes Bowen, and to this marriage were born four sons and five daughters.  Upon his death he was survived by the following children: Mrs. Cammie Lowry, Mrs. Fannie D. Locklear, Mrs. Macy D. Locklear, Mrs. Agnes D. Hunt, A.G. Dial, Vernie C. Dial, Sr. and Tommie Dial.  One son, Johnny A. Dial, and one daughter, Sarah, are deceased.  He is also survived by fifteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mary Catherine Dial of the home; six daughters; Loretta Dial of the home; Mrs. Luzzette Bullard of Glen Rose, Texas; Mrs. Linda Faye Simpson of  Wilmingon, NC, Mrs. Marsha Locklear of Lumberton, NC., Mrs. Vickie Carol Locklear and Mrs. Sandra Locklear of Rowland, NC.  The grandchildren are; Alex, Micheal and Rithcie Locklear, Annette Bullard, Scatlet Locklear, Vance E. and Kelly Locklear, Felica and Samuel Simpson.  He is also survived by five sisters and two brothers; Sarah Ann Locklear of Rowland, NC, Maggie Harris of Laurinburg, NC, Zitta Bullard of Maxton, NC, Suphronia Dial and Mary Elder of California, Bernice Dial and Alvin Dial of Rowland, NC.

She was born to the late James B. Locklear and Lucinda Swett and was preceded in death by her husband, Mr. Javan Dimery.  Mrs, Jessie is survived by three daughters; Mrs. Maitland Cummings of Pembroke, NC, Mrs Louise Weaver of Belle Vernon, Pa., and Mrs. Carol Dial of Troy, Michigan.  Four sons: Mr. Odgen Dimery of Pembroke, NC, Mr. Carlton Dimery of El Paso, Texas, Mr. Charles Dimery of Apple Valley, Calif., and Mr. Richard Dimery of Detroit, Michigan.  Twenty grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.  Five sisters: Mrs. Margaret Lerner of Potomac, Maryland, Mrs. Edna Bell of Red Springs, NC, Mrs. Dollie Lowry of Rowland, NC, Mrs. Katie Lowry and Mrs. Lucille Burnett both of Lumberton, NC.  Three brothers; Mr. Rosco Locklear of Va., Mr. Horace Locklear of Lumberton, NC, and Mr. Wallace Locklear of Pa.  She was preceded in death by a daughter, Joyce Locklear and a grandson, Michael Locklear, and a great granddaughter.  She was also preceded in death by two sisters; Bertha Brooks and Dovie Barton.
