1667 18 April: " Emmanuell Cambow, Negro," was granted a patent for 50 acres in James City County, Virginia. (Patent Book 6:39)

168-15 February:  Richard Cumbo was living in St. Peter's Parish, New Kent County, when his daughter, Elizabeth, was baptized. (Parish Register of St. Peter's, p.3)

1704 Richard Cumbo was taxed on 80 acres in New Kent County, Virginia. (Virginia Quit Rent Rolls 1704, p. 218)

1723 Gideon Cumbo was a delinquent taxpayer reported at the vestry held for Blisland Parish, Virginia. (The Vestry Book of Blisland Parish, 1721-1786, p.7)

1738 16 August:  John Cumbo, Sr was mentioned in the account of sales of 16 August 1738 Surry County, Virginia, estate of John Barlow. (Deeds, Wills #8:881)

1746 2 July:  John Cumbo, Sr.  was living in Northampton County, NC when a deed mentioned land adjoining Peahill Creek and John Cumbo (on the Brunswick County, Virginia line) (1:260)

1747 5 February:  Nathan Edwards sued John Cumbo Sr. for a 6 pound, 9 shillings debt in the neighboring county of Brunswick, Virginia, claiming that he had absconded.  William Petway, who had 30 barrels of Indian corn and part of a crop ot tobacco belonging to John Cumbo, paid the debt for him. (Brunswick Orders 1743-49, 130)

1748 Gideon Cumbo was in Brunswick County, Virginia when a petition he brought in court against William Person was continued.  The matter "was dismissed on hearing both parties" a year later on 28 June 1749. (Orders 1743-49, pp. 391, 427, 501)

1749 Peter Cumbo sued Joseph Jeffries in Brunswick County, Virginia court.  The case was dismissed for want of appearance. (Orders 1743-9, p. 523)

1750s Cannon Cumbo was in the Edgecombe County, NC Muster Roll of Captain William Haywood. (NCAr:Mil 1-12)

1750 Stephen Cumbo was taxable in Granville County, NC in the list of Jonathan White. (CR 44.401.23)

1750 20 April:  John Cumbo Sr. witnessed the Northampton County, NC deed of John Avent to John Wood for land on Peahill Creek (1:420)

1751 Peter Combon was a taxable in Lunenburg County, Virginia list of Hugh Lawson. (Sunlight on the Southside, p. 174)

1753, February 28:  Cannon Cumbo was listed as a friend in John Mackinne’s will in Edgecombe Co. on this date.  May Court, 1753. pg. 233.  Abstract of N.C. Wills 1690-1760.

1755 Will Comboe was taxable on two white tithes in Cumberland County, NC.(T & C  Box 1)

1758 20 October:  Gideon Cumbo was called "Gibeon Cumbo a Mallato" when he was sued for a debt in Cumberland County, NC.  His attorney, Mr. Furnell, asked for but was denied the right to claim insolvency. (Minutes 1755-59. pp. 39, 41)

1759 John Cumbo Sr.'s plantation may have been the Northampton County, NC tract of land called "Cumboes" in the 19 February 1759 Granville will of William Eaton. (Abstract of NC Wills p. 172)

1759 21 July:  Gideon Cumbo was sued for debt by James Wright in Cumberland County, NC. (Minutes 1755-59, pp. 53, 60)

1759 2 May:  Solomon Cumbo successfully brought suit in New Hanover County Court against John Potter 2 May 1759; William Wilkinson on 7 December 1764, and Thomas

1759, February 19:Cumboe’s plantation pg. 108 mentioned in Eaton William’s will in Granville Co., N.C. .  March 20, 1759 in St. John’s Parish in the county of Granville.  The land was referred to as “land in Northhampton called Cumboe’s”.Abstract of N.C. Wills 1690-1760.

1799 23 October:  Stephen Cumbo married Sarah Broom with a Robeson County, NC bond with Aaron Cumbo, his brother,  as bondsman.

1799 3 August:  "Bird Cumbo's" estate inventory was dated 3 August 1799.  Tabitha Cumbo, his widow, was allotted a years support in December 1799. (Records of Estates, Northampton County, NC Vol. 1, #388, 789)  She died before 17 November 1805 when her father, Moses Newsom, made his Northampton County will.  He gave "the heirs of my daughter Tabitha Cumbo deed" one dollar each (2:297)

1814, Sat., May 20:  John  Cumbo died before this date (Gibson Cumbo’s name is on the will in the beginning.  His wife was Mary Cumbo.  CANNON Cumbo may have been Mary Cumbo’s father.  He left his estate to his wife, Mary---stated that father Cannon left “Daughter Mary, widow of John Cumbo 200 acres where she now lives.  Mary was shown as a head of the household in 1820;  Robeson Co., N.C. 3 all other free.
