1638/39, SR04005  Virginia Colonial Records page 3,  John Kersey is mentioned as a merchant (Dublin).

1678, March 4- - Peter Kersey was living in Surry County, Virginia when the court ordered him to return his son, John Kersey, to the estate of Judith Parker, deceased (Minutes 1672-82, p.240.

1679, May 5 - Peter Kersey's son, John, was apprenticed to William Hunt who was ordered by the court to provide him sufficient clothing or return him to the care of his father (Minutes 1672-82, p.250).

1681 Thomas Kersey was a taxable in Benjamin Harrison's Surry County, Virginia household (Virginia Genealogical Society Quarterly, V. 22 4:50)

1683 - Peter Kersey was called, "Peter a Negro" when he was taxable in Thomas Sidway's 1683 household and in 1685 he was called Peter Kersey, a taxable in Mrs. Sidway's household in Upper Sunken Marsh, and in 1686 his son John was a taxable with him in Mrs. Sidway's household (D & W 2:335; W & D 1684-87, D & W 4:4).

1700/1 Thomas Kersey appeared in Surry County, Virginia court on the suit of Nathaniel Harrison who failed to appear (Virginia Genealogical Society Quarterly, VI:4)

1718, April 25;  John Kersey and his wife Mary Kersey were residents of Prince George County, Virginia when they sold their 70 acres of land in Surry County, Virginia in Southwarke Parish for 1 shilling to Richard Shock.  (Virginia Genealogical Society Quarterly, V:7 117).

1720 Thomas Kersey was a taxable in Chowan County, North Carolina in Capt. Patterson's Company from Meherrin Creek to Meherrin River in the northeast corner of present day Northampton County, North Carolina.  (Bertie County was formed from this part of Chowan County in 1722, and Northampton County was form from this part of Bertie County in 1741)

1726 May, 2 - Thomas Kersey purchased 200 acres on the south side of the Meherrin River (Bertie County, North Carolina Deed B:171).

1730, October 28 - Thomas Kersey's 1730 will was proved in Bertie County, North Carolina in the August Court in 1731.  His will named his wife and executrix, Susanna; children; and grandchildren, William Kersey and James Reynolds.

1729, July, Oct. March Court:  John Kersey was mentioned in  the Higher Court minutes in Bladen Co., N.C. ( Richard Sanderson versus John Kersey trepass).  On Oct.,1729 Richard Sanderson versus John Kersey case was discontinued by plaintiff’s order.  On March, 1729 Richard Sanderson versus John Kersey trespass (no return) alia to issue at plaintiff’s motion.

1730, October 28:  Kearsey (one of many different spellings), Thomas Bertie County Will dated as shown.  August, court, 1731.  Sons:  John (Land on Cashie Swamp), Thomas and William (lands), James and Peter.  Daughter: Mary Pohagon.  Wife and Executrix:  Susanna.  Grandson:  William Kearsey.  Executor:  Thomas Kearsey (son).  Witness:  Thomas Kearsey Jr., Mary Poheagin, Joseph Darden, Arthur Williams Clerk of Court: Rt. 1743/4, March 1:  Thomas Kersey received a patent for 400 acres in Edgecombe County, North Carolina (Colonial Records of North Carolina, EV:677).

1745, April 11:  Thomas Kearney 300 acres in Edgecombe Co.,N.C. joining the N side of Elk Marsh, john Low, Henry Simms, Jackson line and Haynes Corner.  ROYAL GOVERNOR GABRIEL JOHNSTON PATENT BOOK 3  (abstracts of land patents).

1748, December 29:  Thomas Kersey sold his 100 acres of land which he inherited from his father on the south side of the Meherrin River in Northampton County, NC.  (Colonial Records of North Carolina, 1:392)

1753, April 11:  Pat. bk. 2 #243 pg. 46 John Kersey patented 640 acres in Carteret County, N.C.

1754, Feb. 20: John Kersey Bear Swamp.  Robeson County, NC.

1755, February 12:  Thomas Kersey purchased 120 acres in Edgecomb County, NC on Sapony Creek adjacent Samuel Cannady.  (Colonial Records of North Carolina)

1759:  Reuben Searcy opposed building Tryon Palace in a petition in 1759 . ....Petition of Reuben Searcy and others....people of Granville County, N.C. did not want it.

1760, Nov. 18:  John Kersey 100 acres in Bladen Co., N.C. E side of Bear Swamp.  ROYAL GOVERNOR ARTHUR DOBBS PATENT BOOK 15 P. 311.

1761, August 4:  Thomas Kersey purchased 307 acres near the Sapony Creek in Edgecomb County, NC.  (Colonial Records of North Carolina)

1763 John Kersey was listed on the Bladen Co. tax list as a tax payer.  1 White and 1 Black male.

1763 Peter Kersey was listed on the Bladen Co., N.C. as a taxpayer.  1 White.

1764, Nov. 9:  Thomas Kersey 100 acres in Bladen on E  side of Drowning Creek and S side of Jacobs Swamp including Sweeting Improvements.  ROYAL GOVERNOR ARTHUR DOBBS PATENT BOOK 17 PG. 96.

1765, January 16: Thomas Kersey was living in Bladen County, NC but he sold 400 acres of his land in Edgecomb County, NC which he had received by patent on 1 March 1743/4.(Colonial Records of North Carolina)

1766, Sept 24: A reference was made in the Wilmington Council   to a petition of Thomas Kersey upon a caveat lodged by Robert Terrill to order a resurvey-------Colonial Records of N.C. 2nd series Vol. IX Records of the Executive Council 1755-1775.

1767, October 26:  Pat. bk. 23 #5988 pg. 105 Thomas patented 100 acres in Bladen County on the E side of Drowning Creek.

1769, Dec. 16:  Pat. bk 20 #2180 p. 527 Peter Kersey patented 100 acres in Bladen County E side of Drowning Creek.

1769, Dec. 16:  Pat. bk. 20 #2181 p. 527 Thomas Kersey patented 100 acres in Bladen N.E. side of Drowning Creek.  In pat. bk. 20 #2164 pg. 524  there is a reference to him in Bladen County on both sides of Mill Branch.

1769, Dec. 16: Pat. bk. 20 #2157 pg. 523 a reference was made to John Kersey 150 acres Bladen N. side of Bear Swamp above his own plantation.

1770 Randolph Kersey was in Tryon County, NC census---no Twp listed. K620   Comments: The Old Tryon County, NC was created in 1768 and dissolved in 1779.

1775, April 10-17:  Thomas Kersey of Norfolk, clerk aged 22 was listed as a redemptioner to go from London to Maryland by the “Adventure”.

1775, March 11:In pat. bk. 25 #7925 pg. 224 a reference was made to Esther Kersey E. of Drowning Creek.

1775, March 11:  Pat. bk. 25 #8157 pg. 305 John Kersey patented 100 acres  in Bladen County on Raft Swamp.

1776 Randolph Kersey was mentioned as a taxpayer in Tryon Co., N.C.  N.C. TAXPAYERS 1701-1786.

1777 John Kersey was mentioned as a taxpayer in Caswell Co., N.C.   N.C. TAXPAYERS 1701-1786.

1778 Thomas Kersey died before the May court when administration on his estate was granted William Truman and Benjamin Odom,  (NCGSJ XIII, no. 4, p.224)

1779, November 19:  Peter Kersey sold for 500 pounds 100 acres on the northwest side of Drowning Creek which was land he was granted in 1769 (37:185).

1779, Aug. 10, p. 182 (1110):  Benjam. Thomas enters 100 acres on the old path from where Noah Messer did live to where JOHN KERSEY did live; border:  Solomon James’ upper line on NE side of Drowning Creek.

1781  William Kersey was mentioned as a taxpayer in Bertie Co., N.C.  VOL. II N.C. TAXPAYERS 1679-1790.

1782  The 1782 Militia Returns for Bladen County, NC show that James Kersey was born about 1764. (The North Carolinian, Vol. VI, p. 751)  He was head of a Robeson County household of one "other free' in 1800 (NC:388).  On 24, Feb. 1834, he made a declaration in Robeson County court to obtain a pension for his services in the Revolutionary War.  He stated that he was born in 1762, volunteered in a company of militia on 1 August, 1782 in what was then Bladen county in the town of Elizabeth.  He marched to Charleston, SC to James Island, and received his discharge in Wilmington on 1 August, 1783.  He was inscribed in the Roll of NC on 4 March 1831 (M804-1477, S-8788).

1784 John Kersey was mentioned as a taxpayer in Caswell Co., N.C.  VOL II N.C. TAXPAYERS 1679-1790.

1784 Peter Kersey was mentioned as a taxpayer in Bladen Co., N.C.  N.C. VOL.II TAXPAYERS 1679-1790. He was taxable on 150 acres and one poll in Captain Regan's district.

1784 Mary Kersey paid tax on 400 acres in Bladen County, NC.

1785, 29 March:  Solomon Kersey purchased 200 acres of land which was adjoining John Rowland.  (25:240 & 1:299)

1786, N.C. wills 1665-1900: John Kersey Va. Recorded copy in Caswell Co., N.C. Rb-B/426.

1786 William Kersey was a taxable in Mecklenburg County, Virginia, household of John Chavis Walden (Personal Tax List, frame 149) and taxable in Southampton County in 1787 (The 1787 Census of Virginia, 1131).

1833, Sept. 13:  John Kersey lived in Warren County, NC and had been a Private with the Va. Line and his pension began at age 75 and was owed $20 annually and received $50.

1835:  Pension Roll of 1835 Vol.III Southern States Genealogical Pub. Co. (514) p.18  “A list of invalid pensioners who have been inscribed on the roll of the N.C. agency and whose residences, and other infor called for by the resolution of the senate, cannot be ascertained in consequence of the destruction of the papers in the War Office in 1801 and 1814.”  WILLIAM KERSEY  DO 6000.

1834, 24 February:  James Kersey made a declaration in Robeson County, NC Court to obtain a pension for his services in the Revolution.  He stated that he was born in 1762, volunteered in a company of militia on 1 August 1782 in what was then Bladen County, NC in the town of Elizabeth.  He marched to Charleston, SC to James Island and received his discharge in Wilmington, NC on 1 August 1783.  He was never in any engagement but once which was with a body of negroes above Charleston, SC at a place called as he thinks the Quarter House.  He was inscribed in the Roll of North Carolina on 4 March 1831.  (M804-1477, S-8788).
